EP Review: Collision Process – Collision Process

by Tom Fownes.

In a local scene that doesn’t lack in quantity, but often in quality, Collision Process provide a breath of fresh, well crafted and technically accomplished air.

Having burst on to the local live scene earlier this year and recently released their self-titled debut EP, this Midland’s band is starting to cause quite a stir, both at local gigs and nationally as winners of Total Bike FM’s 2010 Unsigned competition.

From the very first few seconds of opener, Sleep Now Forever, you know what you’re in for is going to be tight, technical and brutal. What you might not have expected was the more melodic elements that are evident on Revelations, or indeed the more progressive edge of that song and also EP closer, Divide, which is probably the best showcase of the bands progressive groove metal style. With their harsh, almost Randy Blythe-esque vocals, strong harmonies and tight, technical riffs, Collision Process have managed to craft a catchy but aggressive sound that will help them to stand out in an otherwise over-crowded metal scene.

On a more production-side note, one thing that cannot be underestimated is the quality of both the recording and packaging, so often bands’ first releases will sound and look just like that. What the CP boys have released sounds and looks like the product of a well polished, experienced band.

If nothing else, this debut EP will leave you heavily anticipating the release of the band’s eventual debut album. Collision Process are definitely going to be one of the big local rising stars of 2011.

Album rating: 9/10
Best track: Divide.
For fans of: Lamb of God, Soilwork, Opeth.

You can find Collision Process on Myspace and Facebook.
Listen to the Collision Process EP on Spotify!
